about the retreat
The Cornell Virology Program Retreat for 2008 was held on Friday, September 19th at the Cayuga Nature Center. This theme this year was "Virology in the Neighborhood", and guests from the University of Rochester, Colgate University, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine joined Cornell virologists - faculty, trainees, staff and students - to talk about their research.
The day began with a talk sponsored by the Infection and Pathobiology Seminar Series at Boyce Thompson Institute by Margaret Kielian from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine on Virus-Membrane Fusion: Mechanisms and Inhibition of Class II Fusion Proteins.The retreat then moved to Cayuga Nature Center where other presentators included:
Moonsoo Jin (Cornell University) on Antibody
redesign against escape mutants for passive immunotherapy application;
Steve Dewhurst (University of Rochester) on
Transduction of mammalian cells by bacteriophage lambda: A model for primordial mammalian viruses;
Brian Ward (University of Rochester) on Protein interactions involved in Orthopoxvirus intracellular envelopment and egress;
Laura Harrington (Cornell University)
on Research on Dengue and West Nile virus vectors and
Geoff Holm (Colgate University) on IRF-3-dependent innate immune responses to mammalian reovirus.
At the end of the day, virologists had the opportunity to informally socialize over dinner.
